Puppy Chow

The first time I heard of Puppy Chow (also known as Muddy Buddies) I was really confused…. Was I being fed dog food!? In actuality, it may be food from heaven…. My friend just decided to make a batch and bring a gallon sized bag full of this treat to school, and [not surprisingly] we may have attacked it. This snack is ridiculously easy to make and fantastically addicting and tasty. Plus, you can take it and eat it anywhere!

Try it out!

Side note: THIS IS NOT DOG FOOD. THIS CONTAINS CHOCOLATE. DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR DOG. YOUR DOG WILL BECOME VERY SICK. HUMAN FOOD ONLY.

Yield: Approx. 18 servings

Ingredients:

  • 10 cups Chex cereal
  • 1 1/4 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • About 3 cups powdered sugar

Directions:

In a microwave safe bowl, heat chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter for 30 seconds. Mix, then reheat for 30 seconds at a time and remix until the mixture is pourable.

Pour Chex cereal into a large bowl. Pour the chocolate mixture onto the Chex. Carefully mix and cover all pieces of Chex with mixture.

Pour the Chex into gallon sized ziplock bag. If you do not have ziplock bags this large, you can just split up the process by using some chocolate covered Chex and powdered sugar at a time. Pour the powdered sugar into the bag, seal, and shake well. Be sure not to overstuff the bag so that there is enough room to cover the Chex with the sugar. Repeat with more sugar as needed.

Happy Holidays!
